Real-Life 'Hunger Games' to Begin Soon!

There is a new era of reality TV shows upon us. An appropriate term could be 'Extreme Reality' where anything goes and there are no rules, none! The first show out of the gate is called ''Game2: Winter.'' This extreme ultimate survival reality show takes place in Tomsk region of Siberia and is the creation of Yevgeny Pyatkovsky.

The 30 contestants, from all over the world, need to survive nine months in the remote and harsh Siberian wilderness to win the 1.7 million dollar prize. Contestants will receive special survival training beforehand and are allowed to have knives but no guns. They will be on their own amongst bears, snakes, wolves, biting gnats and other contestants.

Since there are no rules, other than to make it to the end, competing contestants may be just as dangerous as the wild animals and extreme temperatures. Everything goes such as drinking alcohol, sex, fighting, and even murder or rape. Show producers will not step in for any of these reasons. However, if crimes are committed the police will be called. Contestants will also have a panic button for help or to quit but it will take around 30 minutes to reach them via helicopter.

This extreme reality show will be an Internet series accessible around the world 24/7 and broadcast in 6 languages. No crew will actually be present with the contestants. There will be 2000 fixed cameras on just over 2200 acres and each contestant will carry their own portable camera. Most contestants will be chosen via application but some will be chosen by viewers who vote for them online. All contestants must sign waivers acknowledging that they could be injured or killed.

Although the show is starting out online, I imagine some network executive will see dollar signs in their eyes and either snatch it up or create a carbon copy. Reality TV shows as we know them, have never really been 'real.' The majority have been at least semi-scripted, staged to some degree and/or have had producers or crew interfere. This new extreme reality genre looks to be about as real as we can ever hope to get for our entertainment dollar.
